It was so fun to play the Shamisen I made! I mean I just put the strings in the main body but that made me understand how it works. Moreover Kana-san taught us the brief history of Shamisen which was quite interesting. The best thing is that I can have my own Shamisen. I wanna practice more back home:)
We had a wonderful time with Kana. She was extremely sweet and gave us great pointers and was very helpful. She was a considerate host and her hospitality was notable. I felt confident I could practice more on my own after some direction from her and it did spark an interest in the instrument. I definitely recommend this experience, especially if you value culture and anything traditional. 🙂
If you are interested in Japanese traditional music or if you want to try playing Shamisen yourself, this workshop is highly recommended!
We had a very great experience with Kana.
She showed us the basics of playing the Shamisen as well as the background of this traditional instrument.
Over all, it was a total worth activity.
It was a wonderful experience. The tatami room is a beautiful and amazing setting to learn shamisen, Kana was just wonderful, she was welcoming, friendly and attentive; she was also very patient and kind while I was trying to learn the music on the shamisen. I had a wonderful time, I highly recommend this experience for anyone interested in Japanese culture.
I personally have no music-skills or knowledge whatsoever. I cannot read music nor can I play a single instrument. However, this was truly a unique experience for me because I was learning how to play a traditional Japanese instrument, the Shamisen. Kana was very patient and understanding of my lack of music skills, and very patiently catered to me despite the others in the room having some music background. I now can say I know how to play an instrument, even if it’s at a very basic level. She even made us matcha tea and gave us little cakes as a snack during the lesson. She also gave two live performances on her shamisen. Great experience; I recommend this!
